La Voie Verte autour de Cluny
Country: France
France’s flagship Greenway was created in 1997, initially covering 46 km. With a paved surface and accessible to all users, it linked Givry (8 km west of Chalon-sur-Saône) to Cluny. Thirteen signposted circular routes allow visitors to leave the main trail and explore high-quality landscapes and attractions, including Romanesque heritage, castles, bocage countryside, and vineyards. The route is exceptionally well signposted and offers numerous service and rest areas.
In 2005, the Greenway was extended by 7 km south of Cluny to the Bois Clair Tunnel, along a section with steeper gradients. This tunnel provides access to a 14 km Greenway leading to Charnay-lès-Mâcon (see separate description).
In 2007, the Greenway was extended by 5 km to the north, from Givry to Saint-Rémy, on the outskirts of Chalon-sur-Saône (the town centre is just 1 km away).
The plot exceptional, the Voie Verte is a cycle track in clean site, from which you can visit the sites and nearby villages. Here, the romanesque art is expressed in the slightest Village, the costumed castles tell their morsel of small or large history; the rural habitat preserved including the typical houses in Gallery, the very many laundries, testify with modesty of an innate sense of aesthetics.
