Wonderful news from the 🇧🇪 Provincie Antwerpen – Province of Antwerp on new infrastructure for Bels Lijntje Greenway, a popular 🚲 35-kilometre greenway between Turnhout and Tilburg. The uniform street furniture – from information boards and bicycle parking facilities to picnic benches – pays tribute to the region’s distinctive 🛤️ railway heritage. It is the first eye-catching achievement delivered by the thirteen Belgian and Dutch partners involved in the Interreg Flanders–Netherlands project Brabant kust de Kempen.

The investment is part of the cross-border Brabant kust de Kempen project, bringing together 13 Belgian and Dutch partners to strengthen tourism and cooperation across the border region. Further experience routes and visitor facilities are planned, with the improvements helping prepare for the 160th anniversary of Bels Lijntje in 2027.

Greenway Bels Lijntje in Flanders, Belgium and the Netherlands

Flanders has a lot to offer for anyone who enjoys cycling and walking through outstanding heritage, art, countryside, and local products. It features an extensive network of greenways, including distinctive cycling and walking routes – rail-to-trail paths, as well as scenic canal routes, and nature-based trails.

Greenway Bels Lijntje, a cross-border greenway built on a former 19th-century railway line running between Turnhout in the Province of Antwerp, and Tilburg in the Netherlands. Greenway crosses the Belgian–Dutch border multiple times, passing through forests, heathlands, rural villages, and the unique enclave area of Baarle-Nassau and Baarle-Hertog. Former stations, bridges, and other railway heritage sites remain visible, making it both a scenic and cultural experience. Along the route, former railway buildings have found new life, such as the Vakantiewoning Bels Lijntje, a holiday accommodation located directly on the greenway.
