Departement Recreatie en Toerisme – Province of Antwerp

The Department of Recreation and Tourism (now part of the Department of Leisure Time) of the Province of Antwerp is responsible for developing and supporting tourism, recreation, green spaces, and outdoor activities throughout the province. It invests in forests, nature areas, sports facilities, tourism infrastructure, and recreational opportunities, aiming to provide high-quality, sustainable, affordable, and accessible leisure experiences close to home.

Its activities include:

  • Developing and promoting tourism across the province.
  • Supporting municipalities, tourism operators, and local businesses through partnerships, marketing, research, and advisory services.
  • Managing and promoting cycling and walking networks, recreational routes, and sustainable tourism initiatives.
  • Supporting accessible tourism and nature-based recreation.
  • Managing provincial green spaces, parks, recreational domains, and landscape projects.

A particular focus is placed on:

  • Sustainable tourism;
  • Recreational cycling and walking routes;
  • Accessible tourism for all users;
  • Destination development and promotion;
  • Knowledge sharing and support for tourism stakeholders.
