Po river canals tow-path
Country: Italy
The Po River Cycleway (Ciclovia del Po) is one of Italy’s great long-distance cycling routes, following the country’s longest river from its source at Pian del Re, beneath Monviso in the Alps, to the Po Delta on the Adriatic coast. The route covers approximately 680 km, crossing the entire Po Valley through some of Italy’s most important cultural, agricultural, and natural landscapes.
The cycleway passes through four regions—Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto—and links historic cities such as Turin, Pavia, Piacenza, Cremona, and Ferrara. Much of the route follows riverbanks, quiet rural roads, and dedicated cycling infrastructure, making it suitable for both touring cyclists and leisure riders.
he journey offers a rich combination of natural and cultural heritage. Cyclists can explore fertile agricultural landscapes, rice fields, historic villages, Renaissance cities, and traditional food-producing regions, while experiencing the history and culture of the Po Valley. The route also forms part of the EuroVelo 8 and EuroVelo 5 networks on some sections.
