Dolce Via
Country: France
The old Ardèche steam train trail by bike: the “Dolce Via”.
La Dolce Via is one of France’s most attractive railway-to-trail conversions, following the route of a former departmental railway through the spectacular landscapes of the Ardèche region. The greenway stretches for approximately 90 km, linking La Voulte-sur-Rhône, Le Cheylard, Lamastre, and Saint-Agrève through the valleys of the Eyrieux and Doux rivers.
The route passes through a rich variety of landscapes, including river gorges, forests, orchards, chestnut groves, terraced hillsides, and traditional Ardèche villages. Along the way, visitors encounter reminders of the region’s industrial and agricultural history, such as former silk mills, weaving workshops, and riverside communities that once depended on the railway.
