The Active Tourism Coalition met at the ITB Berlin. European Greenways Association was represented there by our Members: Claude Halsdorf (Ministère de Ministère de l’Économie, Direction générale du Tourisme, Luxembourg, also representing European Hiking Federation) and Natalia Bakhtadze Englander (Georgian Ecotourism Association, Georgia).
The Active Tourism Coalition was launched in January 2026 under the leadership of the European Cyclists’ Federation/EuroVelo, together with a set of proposals and a joint letter sent to the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism. The ambition of this informal coalition of 20 member organisations is to secure recognition for Active Tourism in the EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy, announced for early May 2026, and to offer an alternative narrative that positions Active Tourism as a driver of sustainable, balanced and competitive European tourism. Closely connected to destinations, it can bring positive impacts while contributing to a better distribution of tourism flows.
