Greenways and Cycleroutes Limited
The Greenways and Cycleroutes Limited is a UK-based charitable community benefit society dedicated to developing and maintaining walking and cycling routes that are accessible to all, including wheelchair users. The organization is largely volunteer-led and works closely with local communities to create safe, traffic-free paths that promote active travel, recreation, and sustainable mobility.
Founded by pioneers of the greenways movement, including John Grimshaw, the organization focuses on transforming former railway corridors and other underused spaces into community assets. Its projects aim not only to improve local connectivity but also to enhance public health, social inclusion, and access to nature. The organization’s secretary and representative, Caroline Levett, has played a key role in advancing these initiatives.
Greenways and Cycleroutes has been involved in numerous infrastructure projects across the United Kingdom, including the creation of new greenways, bridges, and cycle routes such as the Waddesdon Greenway, the Strawberry Line, and the proposed Somerset Circle route. These projects often connect communities to transport hubs, schools, and natural areas while preserving heritage corridors and encouraging low-carbon travel.
Social networks: Each of our volunteer groups does maintain a social media presence, but Greenways does not.
