Valencia will host the 10th edition of the European Greenways Awards 2021

 

  • The Region of Valencia, the European Greenways Association and the Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles will sign an agreement for the celebration of the tenth edition of the European Greenways Awards 2021 to be held in September in Valencia.
  • In addition to the awards ceremony, there will be an international conference and a technical visit to one of the Greenways of the region, in order to disseminate and promote the knowledge and use of the greenways in the region.

 

26 February 2021. The Valencian Generalitat  (Valencia Region), through the Regional Ministry of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility the European Greenways Association (EGWA) and the Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles will sign a collaboration agreement, which main objective is the organisation of the European Greenways Awards.

In addition to the he 10th European Greenways Award, which will be held in the Valencian region in September, this agreement includes, an International Conference on Tourism, Cycling and Greenways and a technical visit to one of the Valencia region greenways.

The Generalitat, through the Conselleria de Política Territorial, Obres Públiques i Mobilitat ((Regional Ministry of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility), maintains an outstanding commitment to the development of the greenways. For this purpose, it is developing several greenways that form part of a network of non-motorised routes, which includes the EuroVelo route and the Via Litoral, within the framework of the Valencia Region’s Mobility Strategy.

The regional minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, stressed that “with this initiative we intend to show the healthy effects of using these routes, the sustainable nature of non-motorised mobility practices and the heritage, tourist and scenic value of the greenways. From the Generalitat we want the citizens of the “Comunitat” to see these paths  as places to practice sport, enjoy their leisure time and make daily journeys in a way that respects the environment and the surroundings”.

For his part, the president of the European Greenways Association, Giulio Senes, stressed his “satisfaction with this agreement, which is the result of the commitment of the Valencia Region to the promotion and extension of the Greenways in Valencia, which are excellent examples at European level”.

For the Managing Director of the Spanish Railway Foundation, José Carlos Domínguez Curiel, “this agreement represents the commitment and close collaboration of the three signatory institutions to enhance the value of the Greenways of the Generalitat Valenciana”.

Greenways play a key role in the development of the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy 2030 plan of the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA), in the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
