Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alto Minho
The Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alto Minho (CIM Alto Minho) is an intermunicipal association in northern Portugal that brings together 10 municipalities of the Alto Minho region, with its headquarters in Viana do Castelo. Established in 2008, its mission is to coordinate regional development, strengthen cooperation among municipalities, and improve the quality of life of residents.
Under its Alto Minho 2030 Strategy, the region aims to become a territory of environmental excellence, combining:
- sustainable tourism,
- circular economy,
- renewable energy,
- nature conservation,
- and smart, inclusive development. The strategy also emphasizes active mobility and improved public transport connections.
Region is a home to one of Portugal’s best-known greenways: the Ecopista do Rio Minho (also called Ecopista do Minho). It is considered a flagship example of how former railway infrastructure can be transformed into sustainable mobility corridors.
