1.                 EVENT DESCRIPTION

 

·        Czech-Austrian peleton of cyclists - 20 – 30 people - will cycle along the Prague-Vienna Greenways during 9 days from Prague to Vienna

·        The peleton will meet the city representatives, local greenway organizations and interesting participants (like the world cross country ski champion Kateøina Neumannová) along this international trail

·        Many accompanying events will be organized during the ride such as press conferences and presentations on cycling, visits of national monuments or wine cellar etc.

·        Cycle tourism Week 2007 will culminate with a cyclist happening June 3^rd in Vienna and other cultural, sport and art events for public

 

2.       GOALS of Week of cycle tourism are to

·        promote cyclotourism as a form of sustainable tourisms

·        promote healthy lifestyle and health aspects of bike riding

·        promote Czech-Austrian Prague-Vienna Greenways trail from various aspects

·        strengthen the Czech-Austrian cooperation on Greenways

 

3.           AIM of the event

 

To deliver the message from medical doctors (who ride with peleton) to public:

Cycling prevents many civil illnesses. When you have problems with your joints or have cardiovascular problems, cycling is better for you than jogging. It strengthens the immunity system, changes your relation to the environment. Who is biking and exercising is living a healthy life! Ride a bike!!!  

 

To deliver the message to the state and city representatives and other public bodies:

The Czech Republic is over European average in the number of bike owners. People are looking  for opportunities to spending their holidays on a bike. However, we are far below the European level in using the bikes for commuting and we lag behind in building safe cycling trails both in cities and countryside. We call for bigger budget for building new cyclotrails and cycloinfrastructure …

„Are you dreaming about an interesting and active vacation? Take the bike and follow the Greenways from Prague to Vienna. The trail takes you through historical cities, interesting natural places, through the countryside of beautiful sceneries. You can taste the atmosphere both of medieval cities and traditional Czech and Austrian countryside. All information about the trail you will find in new guidebook. You can visit many cultural events during the summer tourist season, which are listed in Summer on Greenways leaflets. You can get all information in new Info points Greenways in Info centers along the trail.

 

 

4. PARTNERS

 

The week of cycle tourism is coordinated by Nadace Partnerství in close collaboration with Prague Vienna Greenways civic association, Austrian partner Future Base Weinviertel, destination agency Weinviertel Tourismus and wide partnership of municipalities and other partners along this international long-distance bicycle route Greenways Prague-Vienna.
